A Serious Valentine

At times this life just seems to bring
endless and on-going travail
Without solid resolution nor
even the semblance of a purposeful aim.

But we have invented
for our occasional alleviation,
holidays and other
special
days and time and events
that free us temporarily
from the drudge,
the dreariness
that
is life when it doesn't go well.

So in Feburary,
the month that
- somehow -
got short-changed,
we have a heart-filling, low-pressure
non-holiday
that we can take care of
with a card
with a small sweet
with a flower
with a word.

Let us hope that we will
never see
a serious valentine.
