About the House at 1165 Hopkins Street, Berkeley, CA

In  xx of 1965 my first wife and I bought the house at 1165 Hopkins Street, in Berkeley, CA.

We were living there when my son Jim (MS) Jardine was born.

It was there that the material for my short story, The Victim, came from.

A friend, Paul ___ rented my garage to (partially) restore a Morgan car.

My first "fab" shop was in the basement.

I grew some great zucinni in the side yard.

I made my first home brew there and blew up the 5-gal bottle when I tried to distill the rest of the alcohol out of the sludge in the bottom.

What really sold me (my wife liked it too) on this house was the wall-to-wall fireplace cum bookcase and full mantle in the livingroom.  This had a nostalgic value for me because it was almost identical to my godfather's house on MacArthur Blvd in Oakland.

In 1971 we bought a house in Kensington and moved "up the hill" and rented out the old house to "a bunch of hippies," as we jokingly called our group of UC Berkeley students.
